Moses Ezra "Moose" Holt - Tess
Stats:
Gender: Male
Age: 41
Nature: Human
SPECIAL NOTE: Moose is a TPC (Temporarily Playable Character,) meaning that while you cannot get him into a romance or send him on any other adventures, it's perfectly acceptable to write for him when your character is ordering in The Daily Grind or having a 'hi, how's it going' casual chit-chat with Moose somewhere. If it's something he'd remember or consider important, though-- contact me and I'll write him with your character.
ALSO: Moose is now an adoptable character, as are Mary and Jason. If you adopt Moose, co-ownership of The Daily Grind will transfer to you, for so long as you remain an active player. If you quit the game, or become an inactive player according to the Disappearance Policy, both character and business will revert to Council control.
Occupation: Owner of The Daily Grind coffee shop.
Appearance: Contrary to the usual circumstances, Moose got his nickname from a slurring of his given name rather than his physical attributes; a fact that leads to some quizzical looks when people learn his name before they see him. At 6' 1" and 190 lbs, he's built more like a runner than a linebacker.
Moose has light brown, straight hair. He keeps it cut short because his hairline is receding, or as he puts it, his forehead is advancing. Moose has blue eyes and a little cleft in his chin.
He's tall and rangy and works out enough to keep in shape. His smile is one of his best features, and it's seen on his face more often than not. Moose has to be careful to keep his teeth polished, because he consumes enough coffee to stain them khaki-colored otherwise.
Personality: Moose is the quintessential nice guy. He has an optimistic nature and tends to meet people with the assumption that he'll like them and everyone will get along together well. He can get angry, but it takes a lot to make him lose his cool. And unless the provocation was dire, he usually forgets all about it by the end of the day.
That equanimity is a tendency that tends to annoy his wife at the worst possible times. How, she fumes, can he merrily go right along as if they hadn't had a huge argument no more than three hours before?
As far as Moose is concerned, if the disagreement was reasonably resolved three hours ago, it's ancient history so why still be grouchy?
History: Moose's biography would read like a depiction of the stereotypical White Middle Class Happy Kid of the 1970's. He was the youngest of three, with an older brother and a sister. Since his sister was less than a year older than he, and his brother barely two years older, the differences between them as companions were slight. They fought and they played together in the normal ratio.
His father worked at a Volkswagen dealership as a mechanic and his mom was a housewife. Moose went to public school, got good grades, went to the local college, earned a Bachelor's in Business administration-- and more importantly, convinced the love of his life to marry him.
Shortly after he and Mary married, Mary's grandmother passed and left her an inheritance that seemed a fortune to the young couple. They tucked away enough to give at least one future child a college education, conceived that child, bought a home, and invested in their dream by buying a historic store building downtown and opening a coffee shop.
Luckily, they got in on the groundswell of the growing gourmet coffee enthusiasm, and established themselves so thoroughly in Stone Mountain that no one has dared open a Starbucks anywhere nearby.
They may never be rich, and they may never branch out into another location, but they've got enough of a nest egg to retire as they wish and have a cushion for emergencies. And as Moose tells their son, if you earn a living doing what you love, you never have to work.
The Daily Grind is more than a pun, it's also a merry joke. Moose would be there if they didn't have but one paying customer a week.
Abilities: Moose has never met a stranger. He's got a highly refined sense of taste and smell, and a knack for creating special blends of coffee that prove very popular. One day, he may even try marketing them, if he ever tires of the day-to-day operation of the shop.
Weaknesses: Moose loves what he does so much, he tends to forget that other people, like his wife and son, may not consider a 12 hour shift or a seven-day work week all fun and games. He also tends to trust too easily, and is a patsy for a sob story.
He usually has coffee breath unless Mary or Jason pokes him and reminds him to brush his teeth or pop a mint or something, please!
Quirks: Moose can juggle passably well, and has a tendency to try it with just about anything that comes to hand in trios. Well, with anything that doesn't have a pulse.
Weapons: A Home Defender shotgun is stored behind the counter in case of robbery. It's the only weapon he owns, and every morning he looks at it and prays he doesn't have to use it. Every evening, he gives thanks that he didn't.
Family:
Mary Rose Holt, wife
Jason Randal Holt, son
Vehicle: A 1999 fire engine red Impala. He considers it his midlife crisis, a little early. His wife is grateful that's his definition of a midlife crisis.
Home: The Holt home is a modest 3 bedroom mid-century ranch on a nice street a few blocks away from The Daily Grind. Moose usually walks to work.
