Our Version of Stone Mountain
Stone Mountain, Georgia is a real town and National Park about sixteen miles southeast of Atlanta. Our version of the town is firmly alternate-universe, as is the rest of the game's world. Like the real town, our Stone Mountain is centered around the granite mountain, its Civil War Memorial and state park-- but that's about as far as the likeness goes.
Our version is much more rural, and much less of a tourist destination. In our version, Stone Mountain is farther from Atlanta. Prior to the Great Reveal, the only draws were the lake, the mountain and the memorial. After you've seen all that, there's not much to do that wouldn't be offered by any other small rural Southern town. Atlanta lies close enough that those looking for excitement go there instead.
The state park is larger than a Pocket Wilderness, but not by much. A second-growth forest of mixed hard and softwoods surrounds the mountain. A man-made lake borders the mountain on one side, with camping facilities and the gardens for viewing the memorial carving on the lakeshore.
After the great Preternatural Reveal, Stone Mountain has become much more than a sleepy, rural town with a lake and a memorial to the losing side of a controversial 19th century war. Now, a sprawling joint-forces military complex is being built at top speed, on land taken by eminent domain from human and shifter private owners. The changes wrought by the the overwhelming threat of hostile invasion, military presence, cultural shock and exponential population growth are inevitable, but unpredictable.
All is very much in flux as our game begins.
