Gideon Walter Sargent - Iris
Stats:
Gender: Male Age: 20 Nature: Cougar Occupation: Soldier, formerly a Firefighter Appearance: Leanly built and 6’1’’, Gideon believes taking care of his body is not only his duty but a sure way of making sure it doesn’t give up on him when he most needs it. Taking after his mother’s side of the family, he was blessed with a full head of thick dark brown hair and hooded dark brown eyes, framed by thick eyelashes and beneath thick eyebrows. His voice is clear, carrying well above his siblings’ chatter, and his laughter is always a touch too loud. |

In terms of clothing? Gideon enjoys dressing up when the occasion asks for it. Out of uniform, he’s usually in slim fit jeans, long sleeved t-shirt in solid colors, jean jacket and sneakers. But at home, he’s usually in the oldest, worn jeans, t-shirt and work boots.
As a cougar, Gideon’s is rather lean, with the golden fur typical of mountain lions, but his tail is quite long, almost the same length of the rest of his body.

Personality: The fifth in a long line of bastards - as he enjoys saying - Gideon is the one with most success when it comes to wooing the ladies. Direct, unapologetic and with a mocking sense of humor that usually leans towards the inappropriate, it’s hard for him to take anything or anyone seriously outside of work, or work related relationships. He drinks, he parties when he can and it’s not hard to find some type of sexual story linked to him. Gideon needed to stand out somehow, after all. And maybe because of that is why he never had any type of relationship that didn’t last more than a month.
Despite his social life being chaotic and based on faltering and ephemeral connections, Gideon’s family life is absolutely solid, or at least as solid he is able to keep it. Loyalty to his family trumps any other fleeting urge he might have, and to protect it he would die twenty times before breaking a sweat. And this makes it so he’s overbearing in his protection of his younger siblings, especially Dorcas, and why he tries so hard to keep his shenanigans from affecting his family. Even if that means he has to exploit others in some way to make it happen.
Despite the paranoid and obsessive religious background he had but a brush with, Gideon believes in a higher power, and that he’s a lost-cause, from the sexual excesses to the manipulative streak he tries to reel into control.
History: Gideon counts himself lucky not to have been old enough to remember his early childhood well enough. He knows and remembers the pain of the punishments, the feeling of fear and resentments, the dependence on his mother that somehow transferred to his older siblings and the burden of doing as much as he could to make his older brothers, grandmother and uncle happy. It also helped that his older brother, Caleb, always shadowed him, trying to make up for a guilty conscience, as he later learned during a drunken afternoon.
At home he as the jokester, the sibling that goofed off and was always carefree, while in school he was well behaved, careful to not overstep his boundaries and dedicating himself to his studies, even with some fights here and there. However, as soon as he was out of high school and started to work for his EMT certificate, Gideon changed not only his behaviour but his social life. From quiet and reserved to boisterous and teasing, starting to engage in as many parties and other outings as he could.
That’s also when he started to go out more, finding himself in many bars where his age wasn’t too important and indulging in one too many one night stands, both with strangers and some of his classmates. One rule was always to keep it safe and to try and keep it as far as he could from his family. Of course, that was short lived and his grandmother had made sure he knew her opinion on those particular outings.
Regardless, he knew there wasn’t any reason to discredit his work as a firefighter, since he made damn sure that the name Gideon Sargent was connected to a job well done. What he did in his free time was no one else’s problem but his own. And boy did he have them.
In 2016, however, Gideon was restless, not only because the world was reeling with the information that humans weren’t the apex predator of the world as they had previously thought, but also because he learns of his little brother homosexuality, and while he wasn’t too surprised, it didn’t stop him from feeling like he should’ve been there more for him and guilty for having the need to move away from his family.
And when there was need for recruits? Gideon finally saw the change to not only become stronger, but also to find his own path besides being the fifth sibling and to make a difference, no matter how small, in the world around him.
Abilities: EMT certificate. Concealed carry permit. Bow and arrow. Fishing.
Weaknesses: He’s still rather dependent on his family for his identity. No matter how much he'd like to deny it, Gideon is afraid of snakes. And heights, but snakes are worst. Spiders he can deal with, but not snakes. Clowns are worse than snakes, however.
Quirks: He’s direct to a fault, preferring to earn a slap or a punch to the face than skirting around anything - if he has to ask something, he will. He’s able to touch the tip of his tongue to his nose tip. He likes to act like an household cat when shifted, looking as innocent and as non threatening as possible.
Weapons: Concealed carry, Swiss army knife and bow and arrow.
Family:
Adam, Bartholomew, Caleb, Ezra, Isaiah, Lucas and Dorcas - brothers and sister, in order of birth.
Frank and Adeline Sargent - estranged parents, deceased
Marie Sargent - grandmother, 78
Jeremiah Sargent - uncle, 57, plumber (NPC)
Vehicle: Triumph Bonneville 900 (2000-on), standard motorcycle in black.
Home: Before in his family house, along with his brothers, sister, grandmother and uncle. It has a large backyard, a shed and a small repurposed barn. Now in the Stone Mountain Military Barracks.
Character song: Nothing Else Matters, by Metallica
